B A D   N E W S:   The wall paneling was removed last week and revealed a lot of termite damage. At first glance it looked salvageable, but to make sure I had a contractor check out the dam-age. He felt it was not that severe, and with monor repair, it should be fine. An ex-terminatior was called to give his evaluation and we tore out more wall covering to expose the structure. What we found was much worse than anyone thought; the termites are even in the roof beams. It just doesn't look like we can save it after all. The exterminator said that many years ago he asked management if he could treat it; the cost was around $600; they said no. So here we are. It doesn't justify spend-ing what it would cost to try and salvage parts of it. The only financially responsibile thing to do is tear it down. The options are regular tear down, or let the fire depar-tment practice by burning it. It will coordinate with the Estates Board and get their feelings on a burn which will give the firemen practive and lessen the debris to be hauled off. This will probably take place this month. After that we will begin to clear ahe corner of any concrete and asphalt and begin planning a way to beautify the cornenr with shrubs , flowers, etc., and a new sign for the Estates. ...
